Traditions

As we start our family I've been thinking about traditions. My family didn't have many traditions but I remember some that were special to me. I have been thinking of what I'd like our new family traditions during the holidays to be. I have several ideas but I'd like to hear about your family traditions. I might wanna steal them! So if you get a chance, please email me at mollytelford@yahoo.com or simply leave a comment! Thank you!

As you know, we make a gingerbread house together. Alex also reads the Christmas story (even though it's just to me) aloud...I think this is especially important when you have kiddos. We always watch It's a Wonderful Life as a family.

There are so many things you can do and it will be so much fun, once Q gets a little older. :)

Love ya!

I like the traditions that start early in December and help you count down to Christmas. We have an Advent Wreath on our table, and on each of the four Sundays before Christmas, we light one of the candles and sing a verse of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel." During the week, we light the candles and that seems to make dinner more special.

Last year I painted a small wooden chest with 25 drawers. Each drawer is numbered and contains a small ornament--shepherds, a star, sheep, Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus, etc. Each day, we take out one ornament and hang it on a little tree.

I also like having a heavy-duty Christmas breakfast--egg casserole, biscuits, fruit, juice, the works. (We open presents on Christmas Eve). We use the fancy china and read the Christmas story and sing more!

I'd also like to start making ornaments for the tree every year--popcorn strings or cookie ornaments, something like that. :)

Love,
Jules

you've got to get a birthday plate. everyone eats on the birthday plate on...their birthday, of course. ours was red.
and of course, the birthday person gets to choose dinner. no matter how strange. i always asked for pigs in the blanket and mac-n-cheese.

i mean, i know this has nothing to do with christmas...but still.

open one gift on christmas eve. q gets to pick which one.
